With the launch of a new Agritech Innovation Centre, BC is putting itself in a spot to further its status as a world leader in agricultural technology.
This centre will be on Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus and will work to create more productive, diverse and resilient food-supply chains.
A major reason for the centre’s creation is due to it being a key commitment of the StrongerBC Economic Plan.
As much as $6.5 million over three years will be invested by the Province into the centre while the Federal Government invests around $10 million over five years into the centre through Pacific Economic Development Canada.
This centre is expected to open sometime in September, with applications already being accepted for operations to be held at the centre, and it will create around 200 jobs and help train around 700 workers while also creating 30 new agritech projects in BC by 2025.
