Coastal GasLink Says New Compliance Agreement Provides a Strong Framework to Fulfill Commitment to Protect the Environment

Coastal GasLink says they are committed to the highest level of environmental protection, after entering into a new compliance agreement yesterday.

That agreement will require them to take more proactive measures to control sedimentation and erosion along their pipeline route.

Erosion and sediment control issues have been the subject of multiple Environmental Assessment Office enforcement actions this year, with the latest coming in May.

CGL says they took immediate action to remedy the areas of non-compliance noted in that case, and worked with the EAO on the new agreement.

Their new agreement will require them to enhance training and oversight, develop erosion and sediment management plans, and more.

According to CGL, more than 400 workers have recently completed sediment and erosion management training.

Under the new agreement, which covers nearly 100 kms of the route, new construction plans must first be approved by both the EAO and an independent expert.

CGL says the new agreement provides a strong framework and clarity on requirements as they move forward with construction.
