Health Canada has approved its first Covid-19 vaccination for children between 6 months and 5 years olds.
Known as Spikevax, the Moderna-made vaccine is given in doses a quarter of the size of those given to adults.
Clinical trials show that the Spikevax vaccine is comparable in effectiveness to higher doses given to those aged 18 to 25.
Health Canada has authorized a two-dose series, with the second dose being given 4 weeks after receiving the first.
Moderna is required to continue reporting information on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.
