It was announced earlier today that $17.3 million in funding will be used to help construct the development that will be known as My Sister’s Place.
This development will be providing 55 homes to children and women who are escaping gender based violence and it will be located in Prince George.
The development is expected to be composed of 16 units of second stage housing, an 18-bed transition house and 21 affordable rental townhomes in four buildings.
As for the sources of the funding, the federal government will be pitching in $1.85 million through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund, the City of Prince George will be providing $1 million of municipal equity and finally, the province will be contributing about $13.6 million through the Building BC: Women’s Transition Housing Fund and around $895,500 in annual operating funding.
My Sister’s Place will be run by the Prince George and District Elizabeth Fry Society, and they will provide on site support services like safety planning and crisis intervention for both residents and those leaving violence in Prince George and the surrounding area.
