The Youth Council of the Assembly of First Nations are speaking up over the suspension of National Chief RoseAnne Archibald.
Archibald was suspended following her denial of accusations of bullying and harassment by four staffers, as well as accusing the AFN of corruption and collusion.
However, a vote on Tuesday found many were in favour of rescinding Archibald’s suspension.
Since most of the afternoon was spent discussing that resolution, many other issues were pushed to later in the week.
This prompted many of the attendees to leave during an address from the family of Frank Young, who has been missing since April.
That, along with the overshadowing of other issues they deemed more important caused the Youth Council to speak up.
Rosalie LaBillois, co-chair of the Youth Council, spoke to the assembly about not addressing issues that weren’t related to the resolutions surrounding Archibald.
Two other emergency resolutions regarding the suspension were put on hold following the vote, one of which aimed to end the suspension immediately.
A second emergency resolution, for a non-confidence vote was dropped, with Chief Harley Chingee deciding to wait on an internal investigation.
