A Water Quality Advisory has been issued for the City of Quesnel, due to high levels of manganese in the water supply.
Changes to Canada’s drinking water guidelines have prompted the advisory, despite levels being relatively normal for this time of year.
In 2019, Health Canada introduced new guidelines, lowering the maximum acceptable concentration of manganese to 0.12 mg/L.
Currently, the Quesnel system is averaging around 0.22 mg/L, though the City is working with an engineering firm to determine better water treatment options.
While the current levels present little to no health risks for most, residents are suggested to use another water source when preparing infant formula.
