Northern Health has issued a toxic drug alert for Quesnel after an increase in overdose events in the community.
That increase has been linked with a dense and chunky, deep burgundy coloured substance, being sold as down.
Sudden overdoses, prolonged sedation, and memory loss are occurring when the substance is smoked or injected.
Users are advised not to use alone or mix with alcohol, to take small amounts slowly, and to know their tolerance before using.
Overdose prevention sites are available in Quesnel between 11:00 in the morning and 7:00 Monday to Friday at the Specialized Services site at 395 Elliot Street, and the C-SUN Location at 445 Anderson Drive from 4:00 in the afternoon to 10:00 Friday to Wednesday.
