Two green infrastructure projects in the North are among 14 benefitting from $32.8 million in newly announced joint Federal-Provincial funding.
Provided through CleanBC, the funding will support projects which foster a cleaner economy, or mitigate the impacts of climate change.
On Haida Gwaii, more than $3 million will go toward the TLL Yahda Energy Solar Farm, which aims to displace fossil fuel use on the island’s northern isolated grid.
An additional $1 million in municipal and First Nations contributions will also go toward the project.
That project will be constructed and operated through a partnership between the Skidegate Band Council, the Old Massett Village Council, and the Council of Haida Nations.
Prince George will also see $3.25 million for refrigeration and energy recovery upgrades at the Kin Centre Arenas.
That project will also benefit from $1.2 million in funding from municipal, First Nations, and non-profit organizations.
