A low-pressure system expected to hit the Northwest today has prompted a High Streamflow Advisory in the Bulkley Valley.
Issued by the BC River Forecast Centre, the advisory will cover all tributaries of the Bulkley River around Smithers, Telkwa, and Hazelton.
Environment Canada is predicting between 15 and 40 mms of rainfall over the next two days.
Possible thundershowers and other conditions may also force more localized instances of higher than expected rainfall.
A High Streamflow Advisory is the lowest level of alert issued by the Centre, with minor flooding possible in low-lying areas, but no major flood risks expected.
That same system is prompting a Flood Watch in the Peace Region, with 60 to 80 mms of rainfall expected near Chetwynd and Hudson’s Hope.
30 to 50 mms is also expected near tributaries around Fort St John, Taylor, Dawson Creek, and the Pine Pass.
A Flood Watch is a step above a Streamflow Advisory, with rivers expected to rise, and possibly exceed bankfull.
