Carson Elementary School in Quesnel is continuing to recover from a 2021 landslide, with the opening of a new playground.
Officially opening up yesterday, the new playground features a moveable design, and replaces the previous one, destroyed in April of last year.
In addition, the landslide also rendered a portion of the school itself unsafe, and landed the a replacement for the school on Board’s replacement list.
Since then, the Ministry of Education has provided more than $1 million in emergency funds for a safety plan at the school.
Portions of that funding went to the playground equipment, as well as portables to compensate for the unsafe sections of the school.
School District 28, with provincial support, were able to identify an undisclosed choice site for the new school, and are working to acquire the land.
