After two years of cancellations, Prince Rupert’s 8th annual Salmon Festival is set to return at the end of the week.
When there is no global pandemic to get in the way, the event is put on each spring to celebrate the return of salmon.
Hosted by the Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Dancers and Society, the two day event will make its triumphant return beginning on Friday.
Admission is free both days, with all events being held in the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.
A Grand Opening, hosted by Murray Smith of the Ts’msyen (Tsimshian) Nation will get things going at 6:00 Friday evening, with dancers taking the floor soon after.
On Saturday, dance groups from communities across the Northwest will take the floor, beginning at 10:30 in the morning.
Festivities will close out Saturday night following open drumming at 8:30, and a closing prayer at 9:00.
