New Grant funding could help improve storage and efficiency at a transloading facility proposed for Terrace.
City council granted Progressive Ventures a letter of support to apply for funding for their NSD Inland Port project last night.
That funding would come from the federal National Trade Corridors Fund, and could cover up to 50 percent of total costs.
Site design and engineering are currently underway at the project site, located at 4800 Keith Avenue.
Once built, the transloading facility would help to improve the resilience and efficiency of local supply chains, provide more opportunities for industry, and generate increased tax revenues, among other benefits.
A transloading facility allows for the transfer of products from one type of transportation, such as rail, to another.
In total, the project is expected to cost $32 million, with sitework expected to start this fall.
