A strike could be looming on the horizon as negotiations between the province and the BC General Employees’ Union hit an impasse.
According to Union president Stephanie Smith, the Union is asking for a two year deal featuring wage increases of 5 percent, or inflation, whichever is higher.
That ask is a significant jump from the province’s offer of a 1.75 percent increase this year, followed by a 2 percent increase in each of the next two.
Smith says the Union is preparing to launch and education campaign which aims to prepare workers for a possible strike vote.
Their current contract expired at the end of last month.
