An economic boost is on the way to the Peace Region, as part of a caribou protection agreement signed in 2020.
A total of $10 million is being allocated to the region to help create and diversify jobs in the region, especially within 100 kms of Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, and Mackenzie.
It also aims to alleviate the impacts of the ‘Intergovernmental Partnership Agreement for the Conservation of the Central Group of the Southern Mountain Caribou’ on the region.
The funding comes as part of that agreement, which looks to protect more than 700,000 hectares of important caribou habitat.
