BC’s Independent Investigations Office is recommending charges against a third Prince George RCMP officer in two months.
This most recent recommendation stems from an incident which began on April 12th of 2020, and ended with the death of one man.
Police were responding to an alarm at E&I Sports on Third Avenue at the time of the initial incident.
Everett Riley Edward Patrick was arrested later that same day in relation to the alarm, and was then taken to hospital to be medically assessed.
That assessment cleared him to be held in custody, where he was discovered the next day in medical distress.
Patrick was taken back to hospital, where he eventually passed away, just over a week after the initial arrest.
After investigating the incident, the IIO determined there was reasonable grounds to believe an officer may have committed offences related to the standard of care Patrick received while in custody.
Any charges must still be reviewed by the Prosecution Service, before being approved.
Last month, the IIO recommended charges against two Prince George officers following a separate incident from the summer of 2020.
