A recently completed audit of two Haida Gwaii-based forestry licenses has found they complied with all legal requirements and objectives.
Carried out between September of 2019 and September of 2021, the audit looked at two licenses held by Taan Forest Limited, and the Taan Forest Limited Partnership.
It looked in to harvesting activities on 36 cutblocks, planting on 54 cutblocks, regenerating activites on more than 170 cutblocks, and construction and maintenance on more than 1,700 kms of road.
That audit found that activities complied with requirements laid out by the Forest and Range Practices Act, and Wildfire Act.
However, auditors did find that Taan had failed to report reforestation information to the silviculture database within the required time frame.
But, as the activities still complied, the non-compliance has been listed as an area for improvement, rather than a failure.
