A warning from the Transportation Safety Board has been sent out to train track repair crews, saying that they need to be extra careful whenever they inspect curved train tracks.
The main reason that the warning was sent out was due to CN Rail Freight having 38 of it’s cars derailed in June of last year while it was on a trip between Cheywynd and Prince George.
There was no freight spilled, all the cars were upright and the two crew members on the train did not get hurt, but the Board noted that the track had problems that were discovered 9 days before the incident.
The problems in question, according to the board, were that the track had lifted spikes and a spreading rail which were not noticed by crews.
From now on, the Board wants their repair workers to look over both rails to see if there’s any sign of instability.
