A new reconciliation agreement has been signed between the Sts’ailes First Nation and the Province of British Columbia.
As part of that agreement, the province is providing the Nation $4.35 million over the next 5 years to support self-governance, restorative justice, economic initiatives, and resource decision making.
In addition, the province is transferring a 167 hectare parcel of Crown Land along the Chehalis River to the Nation.
The agreement lays out a step-by-step approach which see the province support the Sts’ailes with establishing new economic tourism and recreation opportunities, building an environmental stewardship program, promoting land stewardship, and developing social and justice initiatives.
A separate investment of $2.5 million is also being made by the Ministry of Health to purchase land for a Nation-led primary health care centre.
