BC’s largest group of truckers has penned a letter to the province recommending a zero emission vehicle mandate for BC’s commercial transportation sector.
The BC Trucking Association is asking the province to introduce legislation on a zero emissions vehicle sales mandate for their industry.
They say the mandate would help BC to meet their lofty goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions on the roads.
Medium and heavy duty vehicles contribute roughly 50 percent of greenhouse gasses produced by road transportation in BC.
They are recommending a mandate which would see all new medium duty vehicles sold in BC be zero emissions by 2050, and heavy duty vehicles by 2060.
