Thousands of protesters made their way to Ottawa from all across the country this weekend to participate in the trucker-led Freedom Rally.
Early last week, a convoy of truckers on the west coast began preparing for the trek to Parliament Hill in protest of pandemic mandates.
Initially, the rally began as a means to protest vaccination requirements for truck drivers crossing the US- Canada border.
Eventually, however, the protest evolved in to more, with some calling for the end to all mandates, and some calling for the dismantling of the government entirely.
Disrespect shown to the Terry Fox memorial statue and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by some, as well as reports of threats at a local soup kitchen led to many public figures denouncing the protests.
Locally, rallies picked up in Prince Rupert and Thornhill around 11:00 Saturday morning in solidarity with the Ottawa Rally.
In Prince Rupert, nearly 100 vehicles rolled through town, waving flags and signs, and honking to show their opposition to on-going vaccine mandates, and support for the truckers.
In Terrace, a convoy which started in Thornhill made its way through George Little Park as it followed a route through the city.
