CN Rail will not be pursuing charges against a dozen individuals arrested during a 2020 blockade outside New Hazelton.
Most of the 12 arrested are members of the Gitxsan Nation, and had set the blockade up in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en.
It was part of a number of blockades set up across the country to support their land defense against Coastal GasLink’s pipeline on their territory.
But, for the Gitxsan, it was also a way to assert their concerns over rail travel on their territory.
Late last month, the BC Prosecution Service opted against criminal charges, but left the door open for CN to pursue civil or criminal contempt charges against the blockaders.
Now, CN has decided against pursuing said charges.
