Gidimt’en land defenders were joined by allies at a gathering this weekend to call for an end to RCMP violence against them.
Titled the Wet’suwet’en Peace and Unity Gathering, the event took place at the Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition in Hazelton.
During the event, Hereditary Chiefs walked a portion of the path of the proposed Coastal GasLink pipeline route, before speeches were made.
Land defenders reaffirmed that they do not give their approval to the pipeline, and their stance that one will never be built on the territory.
CGL has approval from all elected First Nations councils along the route, but not the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs.
Two weeks ago, the land defenders evacuated their Coyote Camp prior to a believed RCMP enforcement on the way.
They retook that camp late last month, after a prior, heavily-armed, RCMP enforcement removed them and resulted in nearly 30 arrests.
That was the third enforcement on Wet’suwet’en terrirtory due to the pipeline injunction in as many years.
