BC is extending its State of Emergency once again, as work to repair damaged highways in the South continues.
Initially declared in lat November, the order was put in place after extreme flooding and landslides destroyed key highway infrastructure.
Minister Mike Farnworth says that, while work repairing the roads has gone well, there is still much that needs to be done.
In order to keep the roads clear and safe while repairs are being finished, the State of Emergency has been extended until at least January 18th.
With safety in mind, the current travel restrictions in place on Highways 5 and 99 will also remain in place.
On Highway 5, or the Coquihalla, between Hope and Merritt, only commercial vehicles weighing at least 11,794 kgs and intercity buses are allowed.
Highway 99 is closed to vehicles weighing more than 14,500 kgs between the junction with Lillooet Road and the BC Hydro Seton Lake campsite in Lillooet.
