The annual Sugar Shack festival in Prince Rupert has been pushed back to March.
The northwest francophone association announced the change noting the usual January event will now take place March 10th to the 12th due to continuing COVID restrictions.
The thought was to move it indoors, but COVID restrictions on the gathering size stopped that idea and holding it outside could see the festival flooded by rain.
The main event has in the past been staged at the Jim Ciccone civic centre, the last festival saw over 350 people attend.
The plan is to still hold it inside but with a capacity of 50 per cent of the civic centre preceded by two days of French language music, the organizers have been told to stage the event before March 31st when their fiscal year ends or they will lose their spot and have to return their funding.
But north westerners outside of Prince Rupert will be able to take part in an event in Kitimat on February 27th and organizers say this event will happen no matter what. Barring a full COVID lock down.
The Kitimat gathering will be held outside the Hirsch creek golf and winter club. Although details on the event are still unavailable and in Smithers the francophone association will be holding a fun ski day at Hudson Bay mountain on March 5th.
Back in Rupert…the association will still be putting on their monthly coffee club at Cowpuccino’s coming up this Saturday.
