A referendum is set to be held next month to determine whether or not Lax Kw’alaams members agree with a planned land redesignation.
That plan would see a section of reserve land designated to Canada, to be used to build an affordable housing project.
If approved, the designation would last for 70 years, bringing much needed housing to the community.
Members who want more information can attend one of two information sessions either in person or via Zoom.
The first will be held on January 17th from 6:00-8:00 in the evening at the Elders Lodge.
The second will be the same time the following day at the Community Hall on 3rd Avenue in Prince Rupert.
Two polling sites will be set up for the referendum, also being held at the Elders Lodge and Community Hall.
Those will take place on January 31st between 9:00 in the morning and 8:00 at night.
