Users of the South Cariboo Landfill will see rates increase in the new year, for the first time since 2013.
As of January 7th, residents will be able to drop-off up to 200 kg of waste at the site without incurring tipping fees, a decrease from the previously allowed 350 kgs.
Beyond 200 kgs, residents will need to pay 5 cents per kg of household waste, 3.5 cents per kg of clean wood waste, 7.5 cents per kg of construction waste, and 2 cents per kg of concrete or rock.
With the exception of the construction waste, which saw a 2.5 cent increase, all rates went up by 1 cent per kg.
Commercial loads will be charged the same rates, though they will apply to all load sizes, with no minimum shelf.
According to the District, while the cost update is long-overdue, it is still not enough to cover the cost of operating the landfill.
This means residents will still see tax dollars going toward covering the shortfall.
