Efforts to improve emergency services in Kitwanga are moving along, although there is still a long way to go.
For years, the Kitwanga Community Association has been lobbying for a better emergency services building.
Currently, their ambulance service is run out of an aging single-bay building, while a new building would see a second bay for a fire truck, and office spaces.
A week-long auction wrapped up at the beginning of last week, which saw roughly 27,000 dollars in bids, donations, and raffle money.
Combined with other fundraising efforts, and corporate donations, the Association has ammased approximately a quarter of the 1 million dollar price tag for a new facility.
On top of their facility woes, the community has also been facing issues with staffing paramedics.
A new staffing model introduced in November means the community will need to fill 4 on-call paramedic positions.
So far, one of the four new positions has been filled.
