Cariboo Regional District employees must be fully vaccinated by the middle of next month.
A new mandate, recently approved by the Board, will go in to effect on January 17th, requiring all CRD employees to provide proof of vaccination.
Directors, staff, volunteers, and contractors at all District services, including libraries and volunteer fire departments, are all covered under the mandate.
Possible exemptions will be considered in accordance with medical guidance and the direction of health authorities.
Purely personal and/ or philosophical requests for exemption will be denied.
Social media posts have implied that the District may need to shut down volunteer fire departments as a result of the mandate.
But, the CRD says such rumours are false, and that they do not anticipate the closure of any fire halls as a result of the mandate.
Despite that, the District says that any departments which fall below adequate staffing levels will have their full support in recruiting and training vaccinated volunteers.
