A report released by the Forest Enhancement Society of BC yesterday highlights the accomplishments of Indigenous lead forestry projects.
In total, the Society funds 62 Indigenous led projects, and a further 23 with significant Indigenous involvement.
While many of the projects come from the Cariboo, specifically the Williams Lake area, they do stretch through the Bulkley Valley, Stikine, and even Haida Gwaii.
Highlighted projects were split in to 7 categories: wildfire risk reduction, forest carbon management, wildlife habitat management, stand rehabilitation, and fibre recovery.
Indigenous leadership and participation has allowed the society to better harmonize traditional and modern forestry practices and management.
