BC Ferries has revealed a design which will introduce a bit of Indigenous flair to its newest vessel.
This Spring, the First Peoples’ Cultural Council invited submissions from artists for consideration in the project.
Out of 36 candidates, Maynard Johnny Jr, from the Penelakut First Nation had his artwork selected to bring the newest Salish class vessel to life.
Aptly named the Salish Heron, the artwork chosen for the vessel uses traditional Salish styles to display a colourful Great Blue Heron.
Once complete, the Salish Heron will be the fourth Salish class vessel in BC Ferries to be adorned with Indigenous artwork and since 2016.
