A tentative agreement reached between workers at Gibraltar Mine and Taseko has now been ratified.
Prior to the agreement, more than 500 workers at the mine represented by Unifor Local 3018 had voted 98 percent in favour of striking.
On November 15th, Taseko Mines Limited, who operates the site, was issued a 72 hour strike notice, and a tentative agreement was reached by the 18th.
Now, 68 percent of union members have voted to ratify the new 3 year contract, retroactive to June 1st of this year.
According to the Union, one of the key sticking points in negotiations was changing the contract’s length from 5 to 3 years.
With the shorter contract, union members will have a chance to return to the negotiating table sooner rather than later.
