Employees at two West Fraser operated pulp mills in Quesnel have been laid off due to flooding in the South.
Due to transportation and logistics issues caused by the mass floods, West Fraser has been unable to ship project, and are now out of storage space.
Many of the roads utilized by the company to ship product are currently damaged, inaccessible, or facing limited capacity.
As a result, Cariboo Pulp and Paper will be shut down for 16 days, meaning around 160 employees will be laid off.
Quesnel River Pulp will remain open, but will operate at roughly 30 percent of its usual capacity, resulting in some 60 additional lay offs.
West Fraser says they are continuing to observe the situations on the roads, and will get employees back to work as soon as possible.
