Haisla Chief Councillor Crystal Smith says she supports both LNG and a peaceful resolution to the on-going dispute on Wet’suwet’en territory.
She says she joins the rest of Council, as well as all of Haisla membership in hoping for a peaceful end to the events unfolding along the Coastal GasLink pipeline route (full statement at this link).
That route will feed the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, of which the Haisla hold a 50 percent stock share.
Smith says becoming stakeholders in the project gave her Nation recognition and a say in project development, and that has helped to transform the Nation.
On Friday, Haisla members organized a rally in opposition to RCMP treatment of the the Gidimt’en land defenders.

Like their Chief Councillor, they say they remain in support of LNG and its benefits, but not the militarized enforcement by police.
They too are calling for a peaceful resolution, but also for Canada, BC, and CGL to come to the table to negotiate with the Wet’suwet’en hereditary leadership.
