Portions of a homeless encampment in Prince George which had been protected by the BC Supreme Court, have been demolished by the City.
According to the City, all of the destroyed structures had been abandoned by residents who had moved indoors, something they say they confirmed with each former resident.
However, members of the legal team that oversaw the Supreme Court case say that is not the case, and that residents may have only moved temporarily.
In October, the Courts ruled that there was not enough suitable housing in the city, and that the Patricia Boulevard encampment was to remain open until there was.
But the City says their actions still align with that decision, which they intend to appeal, as the spaces were not inhabited when demolished.
