A mutual aid agreement between Cariboo area fire departments was key in stemming a pair of Quesnel fires last week.
Last Tuesday a large fire which took multiple days to extinguish sparked at the West Fraser Logging Yard.
While crews were still tending to that fire, another residential blaze broke out in West Quesnel.
Today, Mayor Bob Simpson sent his thanks to the Bouchie Lake and Barlow Creek volunteer fire departments, as well as members of the Wildfire Service for helping to fight the logging yard fire.
In addition, the Kerlsey and West Fraser departments were thanked for lending their assistance to the residential fire.
Simpson says their mutual aid agreements were key to the City being able to extend past capacity to fight the fires.
