Both the Wet’suwet’en land defenders and Coastal GasLink are looking toward the future of their pipeline dispute; though in different ways.
Despite a number of recent arrests, those occupying a blockades set up near the Wedzin Kwa, or Morice River, say they remain unshaken in their beliefs.
Last month, two more arrests were made after blockaders prevented CGL from drilling under the River, though RCMP note the arrests stemmed from allegedly stolen equipment.
They say they are prepared to dig in for the winter at the site, and have begun the process of winter-proofing it.
Meanwhile, CGL says they have become concerned over the safety of their workers on the site, with the blockade blocking off supply chains and access to the site.
The Wet’suwet’en continue to defend their sacred territory and environment that is key to their way of life, and say the lack of consultation they received violates UNDRIP.
CGL maintains that their work is lawful, having consulted with all elected Bands along their pipeline’s route.
