Certain areas of the Royal B-C Museum are being closed down as they begin their effort to decolonize their Indigenous exhibits.
The museum’s CEO, Daniel Muzyka, said this process is happening because of Indigenous leaders making calls for the museum to make their institution welcoming to everybody.
Another reason that the museum is making these changes is because reports that came out earlier this year, alleged that the institution had racist and toxic working conditions.
The statement that the museum sent out also said that they had to close the Indigenous exhibits so they could start creating new narratives that included lesser heard voices in the stories of BC’s people.
