Two new properties acquired by the Métis Nation of BC will allow them to build new offices, and affordable housing for the Nation.
Both of the properties, an existing passive house and a vacant lot, come from the City of Fort St John.
The new lots will house the MNBC offices for the Skills Training, Employment, and Post-Secondary program.
In addition, thanks to 745 thousand dollar investment, the Nation will be constructing below-market rate rental housing for Métis families, as well as a child care centre.
A request for proposals has been issued by the MNBC to find a qualified consultant to lead development on the vacant lot, and engagement with local Métis will advise a new cultural name for the passive house.
