Directors in the Cariboo Regional District are concerned that insufficient policing may birth vigilantism.
Concerns were raised last week’s South Cariboo Joint Committee Meeting over significant spikes in property crimes in some areas.
According to the claims, while Areas G, H, and L, pay large amounts to RCMP due to their populations, they are not receiving policing levels that coincide with the costs.
In response, RCMP say that staffing levels, an escalation in the seriousness of cases, and changes to the court process, have all taken away from patrols recently.
Multiple Regional Directors say they have heard of some residents threatening to take matters in to their own hands.
The District and RCMP are reminding residents that vigilante justice is illegal, and you should always report crimes to local RCMP.
