Over this past month, the B-C Children’s Hospital has stated that their emergency department has been dealing with an unusually high amount of patients that are suffering from respiratory viruses.
One of the hospital’s doctors, Dr. Claire Seaton, has said that almost 30 per cent of all emergency visits from the middle of September to the middle October had something to do with a respiratory illness, a number that was up nearly 10 per cent from before the pandemic started.
The hospital also said that they’re seeing more cases that involve the respiratory syncytial virus, a common cold virus, and parainfluenza, both of which have appeared earlier in the year than they usually do.
They also made sure to mention that the emergency department has been testing about 30 per cent of kids getting E-R visits for COVID-19, which may have something to do with the respiratory illness visits.
