A Quesnel School which was hit by a landslide this spring will soon be replaced.
School District 28 says the slide at Carson Elementary School, on the bank of the Quesnel River, was unforeseen and catastrophic.
A geotechnical report has since concluded that while the majority of the building remains safe, a long-term solution must be found.
According to that report, given the school’s proximity to the bank of the river, another slide could cause foundational damage.
The District previously invested in a fence to surround the facility, and funding has been secured to install four portables by next March.
Those portables will act as a temporary solution for the damaged wing, which will be sealed off.
Now, the school has been added to the list of building replacements, but will require 24 million dollars in funding.
