Following an investigation by the Internal Investigations Office, the Crown has been asked to consider charges against an RCMP officer.
Last year, a video of an October 25th, 2020, arrest went viral, prompting public outcry and eventually, an investigation.
That video showed the tail end of an alleged vehicle chase which began in Kamloops and ended in Williams Lake.
When the driver, Tyler Giroux, was finally stopped, he exited his vehicle, and proceeded down a nearby hill.
He was followed by police and the confrontation that proceeded formed the basis for the public outrage, some of which was voiced by the Tsilhqot’in National Government.
According to the IIO review, the injuries Giroux suffered were not severe enough for the officer to be punished, but they are recommending a review due to the public nature of the arrest.
Giroux will next appear in Court later this week.
