Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will finally pay a much anticipated visit to Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc Territory next week.
Trudeau previously turned down two separate invitations to attend the territory on the first ever Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Instead, the PM decided to spend the day in Tofino with his family, though he says he made calls to Residential School Survivors during the day.
A slew of backlash was levied at Trudeau for his decision, ultimately coercing an apology and promise to visit the area soon.
Now, Trudeau has announced that he will pay a visit to the Nation, located near Kamloops, on Monday.
The discovery of more than 200 unmarked graves at a former Residential School site in the area eventually led to the creation of the new Federal Holiday.
