A bill proposed in BC Legislature yesterday would see a number of changes relating to information sharing.
Most of the changes just bring old legislation in line with current acts, though some will allow for additional supports for Indigenous Peoples.
Changes to the Adoption Act would allow information to be shared in support of adult First Nation adoptees in obtaining their status.
Amendments to the Child, Family, and Community Services Act would allow for virtual information sharing between government committees, and Indigenous communities.
And changes to the Treaty First Nation Taxation Act would establish a regulatory power to enable time-limited property tax exemptions for Treaty members on their land.
All of the changes must first be passed by legislature before becoming law.
