According to a report released yesterday, the Indigenous population of Canada could surpass 3 million in just two decades.
Assembled by Statcan, the report uses modified 2016 census data to project the population growth up to 2041.
It lays out three scenarios, which have the Indigenous population ranging between 2.5 million and 3.2 million in 2041.
That would have the Indigenous population making up between 5.4 and 6.8 percent of the country’s total population, up from 5 percent in 2016.
In addition, longer life spans are expected to increase the median age of Indigenous Canadians from 29 to 38.
