This summer, the BC Supreme Court came to a landmark ruling which also revealed some troubling information.
That ruling saw the Court agree that the Blueberry First Nation had their treaty rights to hunting, fishing, and trapping in their territory violated.
They ruled that the province had gotten out of control with approving industry and energy projects on Treaty 8 territory.
As a result, they called 6 month suspension to the approval of energy projects while the province works out a new agreement with the Nations.
Today, the Nation released a statement saying that they are making progress, and are working to come to an agreement as soon as possible.
The groups say they have nearly come to terms on an interim agreement which will promote stability for workers, while also working to heal the land.
They say they know the economic impacts of the negotiations and are working to finalize them quickly.
