Just as a lot of people guessed, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called for a federal election earlier today and voting day will be taking place September 20th of this year.
Two candidates in Cariboo-Prince George Conservative and current MP Todd Doherty and Audrey McKinnon, a candidate from the NDP, both expressed their lack of surprise at the decision to have this election and while both are disappointed with this election being called, they are also prepared for it.
Doherty’s main gripe with Trudeau calling this election is the fact that he called it while BC is under a state of emergency because of wildfires and also while BC is still trying to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
McKinnon, who was confirmed to be a candidate for the NDP back in May, stated that this election is not taking place at a convenient time but she is also looking to move forward with this outcome.
