As wildfires flare in all corners of B-C, travelers are being warned to check their routes and intended destinations before setting out — because flames block many routes — including some key highways.
Drive B-C — the province’s online travel information service — says Highway 5, the Coquihalla Highway, was cut yesterday by a wildfire and remains closed until further notice.
Detours are available but travel along Highway 3 has also been complicated by a fire in Manning Park, although the road remains open but visibility is affected by smoke.
Other routes affected by wildfires include highways 8, 97, 97C and 97D as well as Westside Road north of West Kelowna and a section of Road 40 between Lillooet and the community of Gold Bridge in the Bridge River region.
