Pen hit paper last week on an historic agreement between the Council of the Haida Nation and both the Federal and Provincial governments.
As part of the Changing Tide agreement, the Haida Nation will have their inherent rights to the Haida Gwaii terrestrial area, including right to self-governance.
A number of good faith measures are included in the agreement as well, as the government places a priority on reconciliation.
Some of these good faith measures include: forestry measures, resource capacity, social and cultural matters, and marine matters.
All parties have also agreed that on-going negotiations and litigation can proceed, though trials will not take place so long as good faith negotiations continue.
