Coastal GasLink has recently both upgraded and created a brand new alternate access trail along the Kitimat River so they can safely continue working on the construction for their mainline pipeline and the installation of their pipeline under the river, which started on July 6.
This new road, which has been typically referred to as Lower Dyke Road, will be used by Coastal GasLink mainly for equipment transportation. Though the road does give better access to the Kitimat River, the alternate trail will be unavaliable to the public during the day and the only time for pedestrians and motor vehicles to cross the bridge will be from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Construction activities will commence at the Kitimat River and they will progress parallel to the Lower Dyke Road until they get to the juncture at the actual dyke.
While no permanent road closures are anticipated to be required for this activity, some traffic control at intersections nearby the project will be required for specialty equipment to make some wider turns.
Pipeline construction activities and subsequent access restrictions are expected to continue until November 30 of this year.
